Protect Your Moorestown Home From Chimney Fires With Annual Chimney Sweepings by Mason’s Chimney Service
A dirty or blocked chimney is a major fire hazard. If you’re a resident of Moorestown, Maple Shade, Marlton, Mount Laurel, Medford, Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Lawnside, Gloucester City, Westville, Pennsauken, Woodbury, Woodbury Heights, or a town nearby, you can schedule regular chimney sweepings with Mason’s Chimney Service to keep your chimney clear of debris and fire-free!
There are homes in Moorestown that date back to the mid-18th century and are still standing tall today. With a town so rich in history and tradition, it’s no secret as to why so many people choose to call Moorestown home. But don’t let our historical roots misguide you, Moorestown is an exciting area with no shortage of activities for both locals and visitors.
Moorestown is known for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor parks. The Boundary Creek Natural Resource is a premium location to watch birds and wildlife, while the Strawbridge Lake Park is great for hiking, picnicking, and fishing. We even have prime park space for our furry buddies at Swedes Run Fields & Dog Park.
All of that fun isn’t just limited to the outdoors. If you want to escape a cool or rainy day, take the family on a tour of Moorestown history by visiting the Smith-Cadbury Mansion. Feeling creative? We’ve got that covered, too. Head to the Perkins Center for the Arts to enroll in a painting or pottery class.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with staying home and enjoying quiet time by your fireplace or wood stove. But if you’re not up to date on annual maintenance, a cozy night by the fire could lead to disaster. Be sure that you have a chimney routine in place and that you’re following it by having your chimney inspected and swept at least once a year. If you’re behind or have forgotten to schedule an appointment, call the Mason’s Chimney Service team at 800-559-6276 or book an appointment on our website now.

What Is Creosote? Is It Dangerous?
We know what you’re thinking – a chimney cleaning every year seems like a lot. One annual cleaning is actually the basic minimum recommended by leading chimney care and fire safety organizations like the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The baseline recommendation is necessary because using a heating appliance – such as a fireplace or wood stove – can produce harmful toxins and byproducts regardless of the fuel source. Gas fuel can make your home more susceptible to a carbon monoxide leak if it’s not handled correctly, and burning wood produces a dangerous substance called creosote.
When wood burns, it doesn’t do so completely. Some of the byproducts of combustion include smoke, water vapor, and creosote – a sticky, tar-like substance that accumulates and clings to the inner walls of your chimney. Creosote is highly flammable and exists in three stages: the first stage is a light and flaky layer that is relatively easy to clean. Stage two is thicker and more tar-like and will need special professional tools and techniques to remove. The most concerning is stage three which is a very hard, glazed layer that’s highly flammable and may call for removing part of the chimney.
Creosote can be managed with annual chimney sweepings so that you can enjoy your fireplace without having to worry about a chimney fire. If you haven’t already set up your next chimney sweeping, get in touch with Mason’s Chimney Service today.
